Beginnings. . .

I was really grateful for the opportunity to briefly steal away a few of the models during my stay in Todos Santos.
I have been meaning for some time to force myself back into taking photos and this was the perfect opportunity.
Model-photography is something entirely new for me and I have much to learn. I’m certainly not sure of in which direction I am headed with it all but I’ve certainly been feeling inspired since returning from Mexico and now I can’t wait to shoot so visit Melbourne soon please all of you!!
Here are a few shots, there are more to come but I’m taking my sweet time choosing so I wanted to make my first post before y’all loose interest!
Very much looking forward to working with you all again in the future 🙂

Unexpected shoots are cool. I had dropped Sara Liz back to her room as she had a shoot with Cam. Claudine was walking back to the Hotelito so she hopped in my car. We grabbed some coffee and took off on the dusty bumpy dirt road that lead to who knows where. I wanted to shoot in all the abandoned buildings we saw but being in a foreign country and not speaking the language, knowing Mexico has issues with nudity and we would technically be trespassing, I opted not to risk my luck and just took some iPhone photos of the area. But man! Oh well. So, itching to shoot something after the drive Claudine and I went back to the house and did a short hours shoot as the sun was setting. What beautiful light. Those days in that magic hour were certainly appreciated. As I sit here in cold December on the shortest day of the year… I’d take that heat back in a second!

I posted my images of Ella Rose first here: My Part 1 would end up at Part 1,253 That was my 6th shoot (October 28) developed and scanned first. 🙂 And I just realized I snuck in shoots between the shoots I scheduled before arriving. So this timeline might be completely and totally WRONG, but who cares? Right? So much has happened since then. I am ready for years end. You know, I am taking suggestions for next year’s get together. Don’t be shy in sending them my way. I’d love to announce it before February so we can all start planning. Throw a dart at the map!

Sara Liz and I started off at Todos Santos Inn for my 7th shoot on October 29. TSI is not really my flavor, which is why I stayed at the Hotelito to start with, but it was an absolutely GORGEOUS hotel. Every little detail you could imagine wanting, they had. Beautiful bathrooms, lovely white linens, gorgeous suites and and and… I just like it modern. I tried forcing the shoot a bit and just decided that we were going to all three hotels in 2 hours! So, that’s what we did. Todos Santos Inn, Casa Bentley and Hotelito all in one. Enjoy. 🙂

A landscape photographer at Fest X

Landscape photography was my first love. I was shooting landscapes for decades before I ventured into the figure genre, which I started in 1998 with the figure in the landscape. Since then I have continued to shoot both, with a distinct preference for outdoor work, deriving my inspiration from nature and the model’s interaction with the landscape. But increasingly the traditional nude in the landscape left me dissatisfied. I could not answer the questions, Why is (s)he there? What is (s)he doing there? If viewers of my images were to remark, Wow! That’s a beautiful image of a nude, I would consider it a failure. Over the years I explored the figure AS a landscape, celebrating the abstract qualities of shape and form, line and texture, found in both the inanimate and the human form. The first two images here are with Brooke.

Finally, in some of the following images, I think I have come all the way around, from photographing the figure in the landscape to the landscape in the figure, where the human form but a frame or tapestry for the landscape! The last few images are with Stephanie Anne.

Candace at the Beach

Below are a few shots from my shoot with Candace at the Playa de las Palmas. This was a quick sunrise shoot on the morning I left Mexico. I wish I had had more time to work with Candace. She is a pleasure to photograph.

St. Merrique and I shot at The Casa Dracula and at the Hotelito. Lots of pictures! I posted some earlier as I was in the midst of editing everything, but might as well put them all in one space.

We stopped at La Esquina cafe before our shoot and I had them fix up an iced mocha with three shots of espresso. I was feeling kind of “duh” in Todos Santos. Not sure why, maybe it was the drastic cut to my coffee intake upon arrival. Well, espresso intake. Espresso makes all the difference in the world! Anyway, it finally did the trick. I wasn’t moving at a snails pace anymore. And I think I took more photos because I was just stupid high on coffee! ha. I work best with lots and lots of mocha.

I worked mostly with my Rollei and later switched up and used my tilt-shift lens with my 35mm Nikon fM.

Merrique rules! By the way, incase you needed telling.
