In addition to the shooting around Todos Santos, their were the wonderful moments meeting many new people. One afternoon I went to the pool at the Casa Bently to appreciate the experience while contemplating the cold and snow I was reading about back home. There at the pool, I meet world citizen Tara Tree and had a most splendid chat with her. Later my wife Dee Dee told me of her experience at the turtle release and how much more enriching it was because of Tara’s translations. Thank you Tara! Upon my departure from Todos Santos I was taking Brooke Lynne to the Aeropuerto and Samantha Grace rode along as she had a flight later in the day. To kill some time Samantha and I explored a couple old cemeteries where the locals were preparing loved ones’ grave sites for the day of the dead festival, then a formal catus garden and ending in the downtown of San Jose del Cabo for lunch where she expanded my vocabulary. Muchas gracias Samantha and loco tacos!!!

And so it begineth…
The memories are still quite fresh of the time spent in Todos Santos with wonderful friends, some long time and some new. A most magical place which will need to be revisited in the future as I saw only a fraction of what magic it has.
All rolls have been developed and images scanned. Roughly about halfway through the editing and though some of it was ready for presentation a couple of weeks ago, decided to start the posting of work from Mexico in the new year, which is of course, today 🙂 ***due note, Australians had to suffer the wait until the 2nd, ;)***
Normally I do my edits in order of who I photographed first but this time around I decided to draw names out of a hat and the first was Candace. We have worked together numerous times since 2005, both at the Zoefest gatherings and visits to British Columbia. Outstanding model as we all know and never a dull moment.
We shot later in the week and utilized the exteriors of her room. The brick had a lot of character with nice lines and textures. The stucco made for a nice blank canvas for Candace and who is now known as Paco to do their magic.

It’s always great to start the week off shooting with someone you’ve known for ages. Love working with Candace!
Mostly shot with my trusty Rollei and Ilford Pan F 50. I love the Ilford 50/Rollei matchup. The textures and shadows I get with this film make my mouth water just a little. It’s a very luxurious film that lends itself quite well to my love of dark bits. Very rich.
We started working a bit earlier than I like. I usually love working around noon so that I can really push the limits of the contrast. I can see all you photographers shaking your head at me, but that’s how I like it! I don’t care for soft shades with my work… I want them harsh and dramatic. I can appreciate the early morning light and the late afternoon light even better. I just find, for me, that there’s still an abundance of goodness with harsh noon light. I picked that up when working with toy cameras, holgas and dianas. You need a lot of light with these cameras. I guess I never got used to getting up early either. Not my cup of coffee. And I need at least 3 of those before I begin. Better than smoking pot I guess. ha.
We finished earlier and dropped down into the little shop area of Todos Santos. We ate lunch at Los Adobes then Candace sampled some tequila, and I managed to get a few snap shots. All in time to be back for the model group shoot which I already posted. 🙂
