A few months before arriving to Mexico I had this image in my head all of a sudden of Carlotta with a Sombrero posed exactly like this:
So I emailed the owner of the Hotelito to ask if she knew of any shops in the area to purchase a sombrero or if I should buy one in Los Angeles and suffer the issues of flying on the plane wearing a sombrero. She told me a friend of hers had some antique sombreros and they just so happened to be from former El Presidente’s of Mexico. Of course I promised to treat the sombreros with the utmost care and she came through for me. This speaks volumes of how amazing she is. I’m thankful she entrusted me to use the sombreros. They were gorgeous!
Carlotta and I traversed all corners of the Hotelito during our shoot and found some beautiful light and cool areas for posing with these historical sombreros and for doing other images too. ¡Arriba! Carlotta is blessed with the ability to work in so many different genres of photography and it’s always so great to work with such a pro. I didn’t get to see her feature in Mexican Playboy while we were there… anyone have a link? Would love to add it here! Quite a coincidence. ha.
Enjoy our pictures. 🙂
I’ve yet to be overtly critical with any of these images. Sometimes every image on the roll says a little something. I usually figure out that ONE shot after I’ve had a chance to divorce myself from the day, the editing and the here and now feeling when the shoot is still so fresh in your head. Merrique is an amazing model and that makes the editing process that much harder.
I had been looking at this door at the Casa Dracula for quite some time online. I thought Merrique and I were going to get in the car and drive to the boat dock in La Paz and head over to one of the islands for our shoot, but Todos Santos kind of kept me from leaving… (you can never leave…) and maybe the pink champagne on ice had a thing or two to do with that, but I really think it was the heat. Heat that I’m missing right now. brr!
Enjoy:
One of the things I loved about Todos Santos were the wild horses roaming around. One let me pet her on the nose. Now I’m back in Los Angeles wanting a horse really badly. Anyone wanna come raise a barn? 🙂
It’s been Aussie Central here at Casa Zoe. Michael and Jacinta stayed for a spell and for me the fest is now over. DO NOT LIKE GOODBYES. See you all next week!
The Cannery became my favorite place to shoot in Todos Santos (apart from the sand fleas) Brilliant light and enough ruin to meet my minimum requirement of decay.
‘Twas an amazing time had by all. Being a film addict, the only thing I have to date to show and tell are some iphone imagery and some evil digital snaps. Coming back to non-tropical/desert weather, I am looking forward to developing and editing the work created with the amazing models. Will be a busy and active winter. On that note… si, please!!
So, the developing has started and the goal is next week. Getting the film is muy importante, but I can share a few iPhone shots until then… now that I’m at my computer. Yeah. Hope you like.
